Georgians are getting a few extra weeks to renew their motor vehicle registrations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Drivers whose tags expire between March 16 and May 14 will have until May 15 to renew their registrations, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue’s motor vehicle division.

The extension applies to all annual registrations, including personal vehicles, commercial vehicles, drivers registered in the International Registration Plan and “drive-off tags” issued at the time of a vehicle purchase.

"Our top priority is keeping Georgians safe during this time of crisis, and we can do our part by limiting unnecessary in-person contact in tag offices," State Revenue Commissioner David Curry said in a statement.

The extension does not apply to registrations that expired before March 16, officials said.

Anyone with questions about their vehicle registration deadline is asked to call the state’s Motor Vehicle Division at 855-406-5221 or send an email to motorvehicleinquiry@dor.ga.gov.
