Gwinnett County Police released information this week showing the percentage of vehicle break-ins resulting in unlocked doors throughout the county. According to statistics being kept by Crime Prevention Officers assigned to each of the county’s five precincts, roughly half of all vehicles in Gwinnett were unsecured or unlocked when they were broken into. Some of the most common stolen items include purses, wallets, cash, cell phones, electronics, and guns.

These crimes occur at retail and grocery stores, fitness centers, business areas, and even while parked in residential neighborhoods.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is urging citizens to avoid leaving valuables inside their cars while unattended. If valuables must be with you, take them inside when leaving your vehicle or place them inside your trunk before you arrive at your destination. In addition, drivers are reminded to keep windows rolled up and doors locked at all times.
