A 23-year-old student at Southern Polytechnic State University drove himself to the hospital after being shot on campus, police said Wednesday afternoon.
Jason Moore, a commuter student, was released from Grady Memorial Hospital late Tuesday after treatment for a non-life threatening injury, Officer David Baldwin with Marietta police said.
The report of the shooting prompted an hour-long lockdown Tuesday night at the Cobb County university. But it was about two hours later before investigators located the victim.
Investigators declined to release information about a possible suspect in the shooting, Baldwin said.
Late Tuesday, a university spokeswoman said the situation was believed to be an isolated incident between two individuals, and that the campus was locked down as a precaution. Marietta and Cobb County police officers were assisting campus officers with the investigation.
The incident began around 6 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Engineering Technology Center, according Sylvia Carson, university spokeswoman. The victim drove off campus, but the suspect apparently left on foot.
Investigators do not believe anyone else was in any danger, Carson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
All campus streets were temporarily closed and students were asked to remain in the building they were in and lock doors and windows, according to an alert sent out shortly before 6:30 p.m. through campus email, text messages, phone calls and a public address system, Carson said.
About 7:40 p.m., the university sent an “all-clear” advisory email, and students, staff and faculty members were allowed to return to regular activities.
