Service on MARTA’s red and gold lines were restored Tuesday afternoon, hours after smoke in a tunnel between the Peachtree and Civic Center stations interrupted normal operations and prompted an evacuation.
At one point Tuesday, officials evacuated the Civic Center station, suspended train operations headed south toward Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and established alternative transportation options from Five Points to Midtown.
Just after 2:20 p.m., MARTA sounded the all-clear.
"We apologize for the disruption due to smoke in the tunnel," the transit agency said in a Twitter post.
No other details were released.
