An accident involving a heavy-duty wrecker and a fire on I-285 westbound before Flat Shoals Road in DeKalb County caused a major backup during rush hour today.

All lanes were blocked for two hours and traffic was backed up for miles.

Motorists were advised to use an alternate route to avoid extreme delays, the Georgia Department of Transportation said on its website. The roadway was clear by 8:45 p.m.
