In an effort to keep the fire hydrants in Union City in proper operating condition, the fire department will be testing fire hydrants during the month of April. Proper maintenance and upkeep of the City’s hydrants is essential for firefighting operations.

Some of the maintenance duties performed will be:

• Clearing weeds, shrubs, and other obstructions to ensure hydrant visibility

• Opening and closing the valves to ensure proper operation

• Conducting periodic flow tests and flushing hydrants to: ?Keep water clear and free of debris that may damage fire equipment

Water may become muddy during testing.
