The Union City Police Department recently announced its application for a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to purchase body cameras for its officers. The city would use the grant to implement a body worn camera program to enhance agency accountability and transparency to the public.

The department has applied for $36, 022.50 in Federal Grant funds and is required to match the grant for a total program implementation cost of $72,045.

The city is required by the U.S. Department of Justice to ask for citizen comments on the proposed grant project. A copy of the complete grant application is available at the Union City Police Department, 5060 Union Street, and comments may be voiced in person, online, or in writing to the attention of Lee Brown, Assistant Police Chief.
