Union City will be making improvements to its stormwater drainage system. In an agreement with the Corbett Group and Reeves & Young, the city’s stormwater utility arm began the needed improvements for drainage capability of areas susceptible to flooding as well as improvements to damaged drainage structures. The project consists of drainage runoff improvements, replacing corrugated metal pipes with reinforced concrete pipes, and replacing substandard catch basins. Work began Aug. 10 and should be complete by next summer or early fall.

The city’s stormwater utility was established to properly manage the environmental impact of storm water pollution and to provide adequate flood protection. This includes, but not limited to, the planning, construction, operation and maintenance of storm water management systems in Union City.
