A University of Georgia employee caused a stir on campus Monday when she emailed a warning about a student donning a flag with Arabic writing.

The email was forwarded to several dozen people, according to an Athens Banner-Herald report, sparking rumors that the flag represented the terrorist group ISIS and that classes had been cancelled because of a possible threat.

But the student was from Saudi Arabia and may have simply participated in an event for international students earlier that day, the newspaper reported.

Police said the employee, an administrative assistant, sent the email to her office manager, who forwarded it to the college’s office manager Listserv.

The email read: “A man was observed walking around the 5th floor this afternoon. He was wearing all white dress, with this flag draped across his head. If you see him, call police.”
