Two years of school calendars up for review

The Henry County Board of Education has released proposed school calendars for both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 school years. They are available for viewing on the school system’s web site or via a direct link from the district’s Facebook page.

Under the proposed calendars classes would start Aug. 3, 2015 and Aug. 1, 2016.

In both years the last day of school would be the Friday before Memorial Day. The biggest change from the current calendar is that fall break would be moved back to late September after being observed in mid-October for two consecutive years. Winter break during the week of Presidents Day would stay the same, along with a week-long Thanksgiving break and spring break the first full week of April. Comments from the public will be accepted until Dec. 3.
