Central Georgia Technical College in Macon and Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins will merge next year as the Technical College System of Georgia works to save money.

The system used to have 33 colleges but is down to 25 following several years of mergers. Officials have said the changes save about $7.5 million a year. The new merger, which the system’s board approved Wednesday, will leave the system with 24 colleges.

No campuses will close, but some positions are expected to be eliminated.

The two colleges already collaborate and are less than 30 miles apart.
