Two men with a long-standing dispute are dead following an afternoon shootout at a crowded Lithonia park.

DeKalb Police haven't identified the victims, both males, ages 37 and 42. According to witnesses, one of the men approached the other, who was sitting inside his SUV, and began shooting. The driver of the SUV also was armed and returned fire, said DeKalb Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish.

Only one of the victims was present at Lithonia Park when officers arrived a little after 4 p.m., Parish said. He died after being transported to a local hospital.

The other man was taken to the hospital by a friend. He, too, died from gunshot wounds soon after arriving, Parish said.
