The presidential contest revealed deep divisions in Georgia’s electorate. Republican Donald Trump won the state with support from rural and exurban counties, while Atlanta and its core suburbs favored Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution visited two counties to talk about the election results.

In the county which recorded the highest percentage of votes for Trump in the state, residents were hopeful, and a little surprised, that their man had prevailed.

Meanwhile, in the county where the highest percentage of ballots went to Clinton, there was dismay over the outcome and anxiety about what a Trump presidency will mean.
