An Auburn man was killed Sunday night when the car he was driving struck a tree after running off the same Gwinnett County road where another Auburn man died in a wreck two days earlier, police said.

Robert R. Wilson, 21, was eastbound on Ga. 324 at a high rate of speed when the 2006 Scion TC crashed east of Fence Road near Dacula, Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said.

Wilson was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died.

Ritter said investigators had not determined whether alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor in the 8:30 p.m. crash.

That crash happened on the same two-mile stretch of Ga. 324 where another Auburn man was killed in a Friday afternoon wreck.

Timothy Christopher, 45, was driving a 2007 Honda Accord that was hit by a 2004 Hummer H2 as the Honda turned left from Belfaire Trace onto Ga. 324, Gwinnett police Cpl. David Schiralli said.

Christopher died at the scene. A passenger, whose name has not been released, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the Hummer was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Schiralli said investigators had determined that Christopher was at fault for failing to yield while turning left.
