A New York-based national arts nonprofit has announced the winner of its 2018 Atlanta Artadia Awards.

Atlanta artists Krista Clark and William Downs will each receive $10,000 in unrestricted funds. This is the group’s sixth year providing awards to artists from 23 counties around Atlanta.

Three judges, including Jonathan Odden, a former curatorial assistant at the High Museum of Art, chose five finalists from nearly 200 applicants. Then Andrea Barnwell Brownlee, director at the Spelman College Museum of Art, and Sarah Higgins, curator at Kennesaw State University’s Zuckerman Museum of Art,  conducted studio visits with each of the finalists to determine the awardees.

Brownlee and Higgins were “inspired by the rigor and sheer talent” of Clark and Downs, a press release said.

Downs' work is currently being displayed at a Zuckerman exhibit curated by Higgins. Earlier this year, Clark was a finalist for the emerging artist award from the Forward Arts Foundation.

The Artadia finalists also included Ariel Dannielle, Danielle Deadwyler and Erin Jane Nelson.

The 2018 Atlanta Artadia Awards are supported by MailChimp, the Tim & Lauren Schrager Family Foundation, Artadia’s Board of Directors, Atlanta council members and individual donors.
