Two men arrested Friday night are charged with murder in the death of a young Atlanta mother, police said.

Keneisha Carr, 23, was shot and killed in front of her 4-year-old daughter while preparing for a birthday party Jan. 14 at her southwest Atlanta apartment.

Princeton Blackwell, 22, and Kerwin E. Tate, 19, were arrested Friday evening at the intersection of Lee and Oak streets in southwest Atlanta.

One of the suspects was attempting to rob Carr's husband, Derrick Carr, outside the home, Atlanta police Sgt. Theoise Williams told Channel 2 Action News.

"It was a robbery that escalated into a shooting and a female victim was shot and killed on the scene," said Lt. Paul Guerrucci, commander of the Atlanta Police Department’s homicide unit. "The perpetrator shot into the apartment and she was struck."

Carr’s husband, Derrick, told Channel 2 the arrests have not brought him any relief.

“It don’t change anything,” Derrick Carr said. “I’m not looking to retaliate. I put that in God’s hands.”

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said the arrests were made possible because of a police sweep of Carr's Alison Court neighborhood Wednesday.
