Jim Vacheenas of Tucker has been honored by a national non-profit organization for his volunteer work to raise funds to help other save and restore their sight.

The Foundation Fighting Blindness honored Vacheenas with its Volunteer of Year Award for the southern region of the country. His efforts have included serving as the team caption of a fund-raising run and leading a support group for people with low vision.
