Troopers funeral drawing many from the law enforcement community
Four horses pulling a cassion carrying the body of Trooper 1st Class Chadwick LeCroy, followed by a riderless horse with boots in the stirrups facing backwards, left a Marietta funeral home around 12:15 p.m. Friday for a service to be attended by law enforcement officers from all over Georgia and from other states.
Cobb County police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said most of the procession to and from the church and then to the cemetery after the service will close intersections or slow traffic on streets around downtown Marietta. The Cobb Police Department, which is larger than Marietta's, is handling most of the traffic flow for LeCroy's 1 p.m. funeral.
A hearse will carry LeCroy the eight miles from the church to the cemetery, Kennesaw Memorial Park on Whitlock Avenue, after the service.
There will be rolling roadblocks, but police say those wanting to avoid the funeral traffic should completely stay away from the intersections of the South Loop and Powder Springs Road and the South Loop and Atlanta Road.
"We can't stress patience [enough]." Pierce said. "Pay your respects. But be patient."
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the procession after the funeral will go west on Roswell Street to Fairground Street. The hearse will turn left and continue to the South Marietta Parkway. The procession will take South Marietta Parkway to Whitlock Avenue and then on to Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.
LeCroy was killed Monday night after making a traffic stop west of downtown Atlanta. Gregory Favors is being held on charges of murdering the 38-year-old husband and father of two sons.
