GDOT is considering a project from Harry McCarty Road onto State Route 316 in Bethlehem that could increase safety and save tax payer dollars. The organization needs public input when implementing traffic solutions. To participate in the conversation, take the poll at www.tinyurl.com/HarryMcCartyRd316.

This project is the result of frequent angle crashes that occur as drivers attempt to turn left onto S.R. 316 from Harry McCarty Road. From 2013 to 2016 there were over 40 crashes, 17 of which have resulted in injury.

GDOT considers a signal is not warranted in the area due to traffic volume.

The proposed project would eliminate the possibility for these crashes by implementing a reduced conflict U-turn (R-CUT). This would prevent drivers from crossing the divided highway by requiring right turns onto S.R. 316 and directing them to make a signalized U-turn down the road.
