Police canvassed a Roswell neighborhood Monday morning after neighbors reported obscene political flyers.
The vulgar anti-Karen Handel flyers were found on cars and in driveways at the Glens at Crabapple community on Sunday, neighbors told Channel 2 Action News.
Inside sandwich-sized plastic bags, weighted with a single rock, were an image of Handel, the 6th District Republican congressional candidate, and a reference to President Donald Trump and a sexual act.
Many voters across the political spectrum said the message was inappropriate, and the campaigns of both Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff condemned the flyers.
Roswell resident Ginger Powers called the image a “fear tactic.”
“It's unbelievable that people will spend the time to do something so trashy," Powers told Channel 2.
Another resident, Clatrina Lane, told the news station she thinks a lot of people are passionate about the political race and “they have a difficult time expressing themselves in the appropriate way.”
Police have not identified any suspects.
The two candidates in the 6th District race will meet in a live debate at 8 p.m. Tuesday on Channel 2.
This debate happens as Georgians already are casting early ballots for the June 20 runoff, a closely watched race to replace Republican Tom Price. Price was chosen as the Trump administration's health and human services secretary.
Channel 2 anchor Justin Farmer is debate moderator, with panelists including The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Greg Bluestein, Channel 2’s Richard Elliot and WSB Radio’s Condace Pressley.
The debate will be live streamed on WSBTV.com and the official WSB-TV Facebook page.
