UPDATE: The street was repaired and reopened Thursday, officials said.

ORIGINAL STORY (published Aug. 28): A large sinkhole has opened up in the West End, according to Atlanta police.

Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard alongside the West End Mall appears to be blocked off, police said. No vehicle damage or injuries have been reported.

City crews have determined the hole was caused by a faulty storm pipe, which is under Georgia Department of Transportation’s purview, a spokeswoman said. The Department of Watershed Management will remain on the scene until GDOT arrives, she said.
