Motorists can expect nightly delays the next six to eight weeks beginning Monday as Main Street through the center of Alpharetta, Ga. 9, is resurfaced from Milton Avenue/Academy Street downtown north to the city limits near Windward Parkway.

To minimize traffic problems due to lane closures, crews under the direction of the Georgia Department of Transportation will do the work between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., Alpharetta officials said. Drivers are urged to reduce speed and use caution.

Workers will first remove the existing pavement, then make repairs such as filling potholes, and finally apply asphalt and temporary lane markings. After the final layer of asphalt is applied, typically one to two weeks later, crews will return to put on final lane and direction markings.
