Traffic: Broken gas line causes busy N. Fulton road to close overnight

A road in Alpharetta will be closed overnight Tuesday so crews can repair a gas line.
To repair the gas line, crews have been forced to cut open the roadway.
The road closed is a stretch of Academy Street, between Haynes Bridge Road and Main Street.

City officials are advising drivers to avoid the area by using Westside Parkway and Main Street to access Old Milton Parkway and Windward Parkway.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is modifying traffic signal timing along those roads to mitigate the impacts of the additional traffic volumes, a release from Alpharetta says.
City officials did not say what caused the gas line to break, but Channel 2 Action News reports that part of the road buckled.
The road has been closed since 11:35 a.m. on Tuesday.
Alpharetta is advising commuters to monitor its social media feeds for updates.
