Hazmat called to clean up spill on N. Fulton road

A road in north Fulton County closed for about an hour on Thursday after hazmat crews cleaned up a spill.
Sandy Springs spokeswoman Sharon Kraun said a barrel containing a petroleum-based product spilled onto Heards Ferry Road. A resident discovered the barrel, but it is unknown how it got there.
As hazmat units cleaned up the mess, a section of Heards Ferry Road, from Riverside Drive to Raider Drive, was closed. The affected area was near Heards Creek and Sandy Springs Fire Station No. 3.
The incident occurred just a little after noon on Thursday.
