Tour the Thompson Mills Forest

The 330-acre Thompson Mills Forest in greater Braselton has trees from just about everywhere, including China, Morocco, Russia, Japan and Lebanon.

The Thompson Mills Forest, consisting of 330 acres, was deeded to the University of Georgia in 1980 by Lenox T. Thornton of Braselton.

Lee Creek runs through the Forest, which was named in honor of the Thompson Mills Community, a prominent agricultural center at the turn of the century.

A stinking cedar tree native to Georgia and Florida. Since 1980 more than 100 native tree species have been added to the 80 native species already present in the Forest.

Several miles of color-coded trails provide walking access to the collections and other parts of the forest.

The devil's walking stick tree covered with thorns. The arboretum provides teaching and research opportunities to students and researchers in dendrology, ecology, silviculture and forest biology.
