A 1-year-old girl remains in critical condition Friday after a television set fell on top of her at a Cherokee County motel, authorities said.
The girl was airlifted to Children's Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. She suffered a fractured skull, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
The toddler's identity was not immediately available.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. at the Hamilton Inn on Wade Green Road, authorities said.
The mother, whom police identified as 19-year-old Shabrinka Hartley of Acworth, told deputies a 32-inch television apparently fell off a hotel room dresser onto the girl, sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.
"We're investigating trying to figure out what happened. Obviously this is tragic," he said.
Baker said two other children were in the hotel room when the incident happened — the injured girl's infant sibling, and a 4-year-old child the mother was watching for another parent.
Investigators have not yet interviewed the mother, who accompanied the toddler to the hospital.
