Three lanes of westbound I-285 will be closed periodically until Wednesday as crews work on a bridge for the Northwest Corridor express lanes.

Don't expect to head west on the interstate between New Northside Drive and Cobb Parkway from 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, and the same timeframe from Tuesday into Wednesday, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Traffic officials say to avoid the area. If you can’t steer clear, take exit 20 to continue heading west on I-285.

There will be message boards there to advise you of times and detour information.

The express lanes are expected to be open to traffic early 2018.

This is one of the many construction projects in the booming Cumberland area.
