"This day in Gwinnett history" is a quick, occasional look through the archives of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, highlighting newsworthy, interesting and curious moments from the county's past. 

May 19 is a somber day in Gwinnett history. In 1937, Lawrenceville farmer W.D. Huston was trampled to death by "a cow he was trying to lead across a creek."

According to AJC archives: "One of the farmer's sons, answering a cry for help, found his father lying on the ground, already dead. Examination revealed a punctured lung and other internal injuries."

Huston's unfortunate death must've been a late-breaking development, because the report was nestled well downpage on page 11  -- below dispatches of questionable import from London, New York and South Carolina.
