Thieves with a taste for alcoholic beverages have targeted trucks making deliveries in east Atlanta in recent weeks, according to police.

Delivery truck drivers have reported three incidents during the past two weeks in which they’ve returned to their vehicle to find bottles of alcoholic beverages missing. In a fourth incident, the driver found cartons of cigarettes had disappeared.

All of the incidents have occurred in Zone 6, the northernmost part of the city's east side.

On Jan. 18, a driver making a delivery on North Highland Avenue returned to his vehicle to find a U-Haul truck parked next to his truck and several suspects removing items from his vehicle. The suspects fled when they saw the driver, who said bottles of alcohol were taken.

Two days later, a driver on Ponce De Leon said someone cut the lock off his delivery truck and removed alcoholic beverages.

On Jan. 25, a similar theft took place on Wylie Street. The driver had not locked the delivery truck, police said.

On Jan 27, another driver reported a theft from his delivery truck on McLendon Avenue, but this time, thieves removed cartons of cigarettes.

The APD did not identify the delivery trucks, but urged drivers to lock their vehicles and leave someone with the truck, if possible.
