DeKalb County police issued a warning Thursday afternoon after two women were followed by car thieves in the past week.

In both cases, which happened in the Clarkston area, two perpetrators tailed the women, who were traveling alone when their cars were stolen.

“Two black males bump the vehicle from behind with their vehicle,” the department said in a Facebook post. “The victims exit their vehicle to check for damage. One of the passengers in the suspect vehicle exit their vehicle and jump into the victim’s car and drive off followed by the suspect vehicle.”

The agency recommended not exiting your car in such an accident. Instead, call 911 and, if the other driver walks to the window, tell them police are on the way, the post said.

“You can do all this without exiting your vehicle. If you do not feel comfortable or safe about the situation, you should move to a lighted and populated area like a gas station or shopping center,” the police said.
