Q&A on the News
Q: What is the status of the Riverdale man John Louis McKinley, who police said dragged his dog, Choker, behind his truck in July, and how is Choker doing?
-- Joni Zboreak, Kennesaw
A: "Choker [a pit bull-boxer mix] has been placed in foster care. He's in a great home right now. He is doing wonderful," Capt. Mark Thompson, unit commander for the Clayton County Animal Control Unit, told Q&A on the News. A felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty is pending against McKinley, 57, Thompson said. "We're waiting on a trial date," he said.
Q: I recently heard on NPR that some states have a program that updates voting records daily and political parties can see if you voted, and once they do, your name will be dropped from robo calls and literature. Does Georgia have such a program?
-- Jack Marchino, Stone Mountain
A: Political parties can get information from the state on which voters have cast their ballots, but the information does not include phone numbers, Matt Carrothers, a spokesman for the secretary of state's office, told Q&A on the News. "The decision on where to target phone calls or direct mail literature is done by the campaigns," he said. There is no state-administered program that results in fewer calls or mail related to campaigns.
