The mercury plummeted below the freezing mark across parts of metro Atlanta early Friday, but was expected to rebound back into the 60s later in the day, then climb into the 70s over the weekend.
The northwestern, western and southwestern suburbs were under a freeze warning until 9 a.m., while the rest of the metro area was under a frost advisory.
Low temperatures through 6 a.m. included 30 degrees in Peachtree City, 31 in Alpharetta and 32 in Dallas and Johns Creek. Other early morning readings included 32 in Chamblee, 33 in Dunwoody and 40 at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Temperatures elsewhere across the state included 25 in Blairsville and 38 in Valdosta.
Atlanta’s normal low for Nov. 9 is 47 degrees; the record low is 23, set in 1976.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said temperatures will warm into the upper 60s under sunny skies Friday afternoon.
Those sunny skies will prevail through the weekend, with highs in the low 70s and lows in the 40s, according to Minton.
The next chance of precipitation will be on Monday, when there’s a 60 percent chance of rain.
