The young man killed Tuesday in Atlanta’s first fatal shooting of the New Year has been identified as 18-year-old Jared Billings.

Billings was found shot in the chest around 9 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 1300 block of Epworth Street. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said in an e-mail that witnesses told investigators that the victim had gotten into an argument with another male, who pulled a gun and shot him.

Jones said Thursday that no arrests had been made.
