A Grovetown teenager was killed when he lost control of his pickup truck and struck a tractor-trailer carrying diesel fuel.

The Augusta Chronicle reported that 19-year-old Taylor Durrence was exiting Deans Bridge Road heading southbound when the accident occurred Friday morning. He lost control of the Nissan Frontier pickup when he was exiting the ramp, crossed the Bobby Jones Expressway center median and struck the tractor trailer head on.

Richmond County sheriff's Capt. Scott Gay said the ruptured diesel fuel tank spilled a "significant amount" of fuel.

Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen said Durrence was killed instantaneously and was extricated from his pickup. Durrence was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m.

The tractor trailer driver was not injured. He was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital for evaluation.
