Fayette County is considering adjustments to its academic calendar to provide more professional learning time for teachers.

Terry Oatts, assistant superintendent of student achievement, presented revised 2016-18 schedules to the Board of Education Monday that include early-release and late-arrival days amounting to three full days of additional teacher development. Most of the sessions would be just before or after scheduled holidays. Oatts said a majority of principals, who consulted with their teachers, support the plan. Board members expressed concern about student attendance on half-days, and the schedule’s effect on working parents.
