A DeKalb County grand jury indicted a former Tucker Middle School teacher Thursday for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old student and spying on other students and a female relative.
Almarcus Dwayne Thomas, 42, is accused of maintaining a seven-month sexual relationship with one of his students, and keeping nude photos of the teen on his computer.
Thomas also is accused of recording video footage of another student looking up another student’s dress at school and setting up a camera to secretly record a relative bathing, prosecutors allege.
The relationship with the teen began last February, prosecutors allege, and Thomas had sex with her in his classroom. The photos of the teen were found on his computer earlier this year when DeKalb police conducted a search of his home.
The 22-count indictment includes multiple counts of statutory rape, child molestation, sexual exploitation of children, invasion of privacy and sexual assault against a “person in custody,” referring to the student who was under his authority.
“Her father found out about it,” DeKalb District Attorney Robert James told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, referring to the father of the 15-year-old. “He confronted [Thomas], then we found out.”
Thomas was arrested in March and remains in the DeKalb County Jail. He resigned in lieu of termination last month, DeKalb schools spokesman Walter Woods said.
