McDonough officials continue to work on plans for a new community center on the south side of the city, but there is not a consensus on how big the facility should be, how it will be funded or when it will be built.

Information was presented to the City Council at its Aug. 2 workshop meeting regarding possible architectural and engineering services for the design of the building, and the council discussed whether to proceed with an 8,000-square-foot facility on one level or a two-story structure that would be exactly double that size.

Some council members quickly announced that they preferred the larger building, while others expressed concern that the two-story version would be well over budget and construction would have to be delayed while funding sources are identified.

City officials will convene a meeting with the design consultants to provide more detailed cost estimates.
