Cruse Bramwell is concerned over a storm grate that is causing residents to be frustrated with a solution that is not working.
“Over a year ago a driver cut the corner too close at the intersection of Rosedale Road and Stillwood Drive in unincorporated DeKalb County. The vehicle damaged the cast iron grate which covered the storm sewer. This left a gaping hole on a street where many people walk and children ride their bikes,” Bramwell said.
Bramwell reported the situation to the DeKalb public works department, and several weeks later they removed the damaged grate and replaced it with a pre-cast concrete square.
“This square was simply placed over the drain without being attached or reinforced. The repair lasted about a day, until another driver hit the concrete, pushing it off of the drain and into our yard. This same scenario occurred several more times during the year. Clearly the concrete square is no solution for the problem. The danger marking was made by a utility locating crew who didn’t want their folks falling into the hole. So, this situation clearly fits the definition of lunacy: doing the same thing over and over while hoping for a different outcome! ”

Bill Worth thinks something needs to be done about a traffic light that he believes can be eliminated.
“I believe the traffic light at Piedmont Avenue and Currier Streets NE is not needed. The Civic Center is closed and so is Sci-Trek; also very few people cross the street there. The cars entering Piedmont could gain access easily by a stop sign on Currier. I suggest the light be replaced with a stop sign, or at minimum change the light to flashing yellow/red,” he said.
