A man wielding a sword was shot and injured by a Cherokee deputy late Saturday night.

Howard Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said Sunday that deputies were dispatched to the 2700 block of Old Mill Place near Acworth upon report of shots being fired. Arriving officers found a man wielding a sword.

The suspect, who was not identified, was shot and transported to Kennestone Hospital in critical condition, said Baker.

More details were not made available Sunday.

As is customary in police shootings, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
