Suwanee has completed its purchase of a one-acre parcel of property in the Gateway area to build a new police substation and training center.

The city closed on the property last week. The land, which is near the I-85 interchange and currently houses an abandoned BP gas station, car wash and Waffle House, was purchased for $750,000.

City officials plan to demolish the buildings on the land and build the approximately 7,000-square foot center later this year.

The cost for building the substation-training center will be about $1.6 million.
