Want to learn some of the skills it takes to be a Suwanee police officer? The city’s police department has a course for you.

The Suwanee Police Department has opened applications for its Citizens Police Academy. The 10-week course will put participants through training similar to that of a professional officer.

Active shooter response, narcotics identification and traffic stops are just some of the topics that will be covered, according to a Facebook post from the city. Participants will also get to go on a ride-along with a police officer.

Anyone interested should contact officer Richard Pope at rpope@suwanee.com or 770-904-7641 for an application or more information. The program begins Sept. 18 and lasts through Nov. 20.
