Longtime Suwanee City Council member Jimmy Burnette has announced that he will enter the mayoral race this fall.

Burnette made the announcement Tuesday at Suwanee City Hall. He will attempt to succeed current Mayor Dave Williams, who has decided not to run for reelection after serving only one term.

Burnette, a native of Suwanee, has served on the council since 1996, making him the city's most-tenured member.

Qualifying for the race will start Aug. 29. The election will be held Nov. 8.
