A suspect has been arrested in the shooting of a man outside a Krystal restaurant in Gwinnett County last month.

Gwinnett Sheriff's deputies apprehended Jerome Melvin Carter on Tuesday.

Deputies tracked Carter, 38, to a residence in Norcross, where they confronted the suspect and ordered him to surrender, according to sheriff's spokesman Lt. Sean Smith.

Carter ran away and was later found by deputies, who ordered him to stop. He again attempted to flee and was subdued with a stun gun, Smith said.

Carter is suspected of shooting Habiza Maldonado-Domenech in the chest outside the Krystal restaurant at 1700 Lilburn Indian Trail Road the night of March 15, according to a police report obtained by the AJC. Maldonado-Domenech, 39, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville for treatment. He survived his wound.

Carter is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held without bond in the Gwinnett County jail.
