A suspect was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound after a SWAT standoff in Dacula on Wednesday night, Gwinnett County police said.

An armed man was refusing to come out of a Swans Landing Drive home and turn himself in to police after allegedly threatening his estranged wife, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said.

Police were trying to get the man to surrender peacefully, he said.

The suspect later was found dead inside a bedroom closet, Ritter said.

The man's name was not released.
