Sunshine and cooler temperatures will return to metro Atlanta on Sunday after a day of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms on Saturday.

Arriving with the change in weather will be a pickup in the wind, according to Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz. He expects gusts of up to 30 mph. The high Sunday will be in the upper 60s. The overnight low will be around 52.

The cooler weather will continue into next week, Nitz said.

“A frost is possible in the north metro area by Tuesday morning followed by a quick warm-up mid-week,” Nitz said.

The high Monday will be around 60, but it will jump back to 68 Tuesday and then reach around 77 on Wednesday. The nighttime lows, however, will be much cooler with temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s Monday and Tuesday before climbing to around 50 on Wednesday night.

The rain Saturday could put a damper on roadwork plans.

Road crews planned to close up to four lanes of I-285 eastbound in DeKalb County from Chamblee Dunwoody Road to Buford Highway through 5 a.m. on Monday.

Also in DeKalb, the two left lanes of I-285 northbound will be closed from north of LaVista Road to Chamblee Tucker Road, and one lane of the ramp from I-285 westbound to Ashford Dunwoody Road will be blocked.

In Gwinnett County, crews working on the Gravel Springs Road bridge over I-85 will be closing one lane of the interstate in each direction north of Ga. 20 each night through April 24, with traffic being paced several times nightly beginning at midnight.

In Midtown, traffic will be congested around Piedmont Park, which is hosting the annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival all weekend.

Big crowds are also expected this weekend for the Sweetwater 420 Fest in Candler Park.

Other weekend events include a Hawks game Sunday afternoon at Philips Arena and Saturday night’s Ultimate Fighting Championship, also at Philips Arena.
