The first phase of the Sugar Hill Greenway project connecting the city’s downtown with the two parks on Level Creek and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard along with some new stops on Level Creek Road and Whitehead Road is in the final stages of design. Permit plans are being assembled to begin the review process by GDOT and Gwinnett for portions of the project passing through those entities.

In the mean time, Friends of the Sugar Hill Greenway have been meeting to discuss the first phase of the greenway and have created four sub-committees aimed at creating awareness for the greenway project. These committees include: running, cycling, logistics and communications.

The group has toured the Retreat at Orr’s Ferry site, which the city hopes to bring on-board as a trail-head site during a later phase of the greenway development.

Volunteers interested in joining Friends of the Sugar Hill Greenway may contact Scott at sandrews@cityofsugarhill.com or Dekotah at dmathis@cityofsugarhill.com.
