Despite a great deal of debate, the Sugar Hill City Council voted Monday to approve rezoning and annexation of land for a 33-lot subdivision at the intersection of Suwanee Dam Road and State Route 20. The homes planned for the 13-acre parcel in the 5800 block of Suwanee Dam Road will be at least 2,400 square feet in the $300,000 range.

Council members, several business owners and residents attending the city council meeting expressed concern that Sugar Hill already has too much residential property and needs more commercial development. But with others showing support for the new homes, and since the property owner had not received any offers for the land since 2008, the council ultimately voted in favor of the subdivision.
