The Sugar Hill City Council approved a new noise level amendment Monday in response to residents concerns about construction related to the widening of Ga. Highway 20.

The revised ordinance sets a sound limit of 60 decibels from 7:01 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 55 decibels from 9:01 p.m. to 7 a.m. within 500 feet of any residential area. The change also restricts construction hours two hours earlier on weekdays before 7 a.m. and weekends and holidays before 9 a.m.

The amendment also limits times for the use of loudspeakers, power tools and model vehicles and prohibits trash collection before 7 a.m.. and after 7 p.m. all days within 100 feet of a residential area.
