An Atlanta sixth-grader is recovering Friday from injuries she received when she fell through a second floor window to the gym below at John F. Kennedy Middle School Thursday.

APS spokesman Keith Bromery said the 12-year-old girl was roughhousing with other students in a third floor hallway at the school Thursday morning when she fell through an enclosure overlooking the gymnasium, which is on the second floor.

The student sustained pelvic and leg injuries in the fall.  She was taken to the Emory University Children's Hospital for treatment, he said.
Bromery said the district's facilities department conducted an inspection of the third-floor glass enclosure to insure the integrity of the glass and enclosure frames.
The principal is sending out a letter to parents and guardians Friday notifying them of the incident, Bromery said.

Kennedy Middle School is on James P. Brawley Drive west of downtown Atlanta.
