The governor’s commission on Brookhaven will host a student art contest this fall to promote awareness of the new city.

Commission member Jed Beardsley is organizing the “Spirit Art” contest, which will be open to children in the Brookhaven’s 10 schools and judged by school leaders.

Students from Brookhaven who attend schools outside the new city can also enter artwork in an open category, which will be judged by a community arts group.

The contest deadline has yet to be announced. However, finalists are expected to be displayed at the first City Council meetings when the city begins operations in December.
